Community feedback requested on naming suggestion for Hunt building
Hunt Cafetorium

On the Hunt Middle School campus remains one original building – a unique dome shaped structure referred to as the cafetorium. The building is currently undergoing renovations and will be repurposed as a community space. The building has never had an official name.

Superintendent on Special Assignment, Carla Santorno, has received a suggestion from the community to name the cafetorium in honor of the late Karen Lee Vialle (1943-2019).

Vialle was a lifelong Tacoma resident who dedicated her life to public service, including serving on the Tacoma Public School Board from 2011-2019. As a Board member she was a fierce advocate for students and families. Vialle was also the first woman elected to the Tacoma City Council and in 1990 became the first woman to be elected Mayor of Tacoma. She was a graduate of Wilson High School (now Silas), the University of Puget Sound and held advanced degrees from Washington State University.

This survey is being conducted to gather community feedback on this naming suggestion.
